National Adoption Month: Q is for…

#NationalAdoptionAwareness Month. Q is for #Quick

How does the word Quick relate to adoption? Individuals who are in the adoption world wish and hope that the process of #planning, #waiting, #choosing and #laboring are all things that will be quick and painless. But #adoption is something that is NOT quick for many individuals. Prospective Adoptive parents are told once their home study has been approved to have a bedroom/nursery ready because they will never know when they will get the phone call about being matched. Birthmothers are quickly judged when they come-out to others about placing a child or children into an adoption agreement. Adoptees who are beginning the process of searching for their birthparents are told that it is not always a quick thing to happen.

As for my journey, I quickly knew that I was going to place Lil Miss into an adoption agreement due to the circumstances I was facing, and I chose an adoption agency quick as well. When it came to choosing prospective adoptive parents, I knew very quickly that N & D were meant to be the individuals who would parent my child. When I was in labor, I was given Pitocin to help restart my contractions due to my labor stalling for several hours. Once the Pitocin kicked in the contractions were coming extremely quick and I was ‘pushing’ every 2 minutes. I remember skipping a couple contractions only so that I could breath for a moment. After Lil Miss was born, I quickly felt the bittersweet emotions of what was quickly coming within a couple of days, but yet I would be reminded of all of the reasons why I was choosing placement over parenting.
