National Adoption Month: Y is for…

#NationalAdoptionAwareness Month. Y is for #Young

A lot of people assume that most of birth mothers are under the age of 18, but I was one month away from turning 23 years old. I was at the age where if I had chosen to parent, no one would have even batted an eye since I was not a teenager. It is more common for women in their 20s to plan to place than one who is 16 or 18. I had seen the exact age range a couple months ago while reading an article, and of course I cannot find the percentage now. Several of my Birthmom friends who placed were all in their mid to upper 20s or even in their 30s. One friend had been with her partner for many years and had planned to not parent, then found herself pregnant at almost 40 years old. She and her partner decided to place as they knew that trying to be a new parent at the age of 40 was not what they wanted to do. As it has been conveyed through many of my posts, there is a reasoning of why an adoption placement takes place no matter what the age of the woman is.
