National Adoption Month: H is also for…

#NationalAdoptionAwareness Month.

H is also for #Hospital

Hospitals are difficult for me, especially if it is the Labor and Delivery Wing. Other Birthmom friends also have difficult time going to the hospital, as it is sometimes the last place that they saw their child. It is not natural to carry a baby for 9 months, check into a labor and delivery wing, be in labor for 17+ hours, spend 2 days with a newborn and then discharge without taking that precious little human home with you. The sooner my due date got, the more nervous I was for having to really face the music. I went into labor the Friday before Super Bowl Sunday 2004 and discharged from the hospital that Monday. It took me ten years to gather up courage to visit a friend in the hospital who had recently had a baby. Be gentle and understanding if your friend is a Birthmom and is unable to visit you in the hospital after you have had a baby, and know that she is reliving painful emotions that she didn’t think she would have to think about.
